My eyes greet thine on the street,
Downcast and dark-ringed,
A passer-by as though passing over,
Outcast with dragging feet.
We walk just one step down,
alongside the uniform pavement dwellers,
we walk as the dead in this town.
matching in martial colours.
I see you and your cutting, haggard stare,
Cutting out the crowd, so they're no longer there,
But it's just you and I sharing the same ill fate,
Tarpaulin green shroud, a deserted world to navigate,
We wander along one road,
A road that leads to nowhere,
Bound by our creed and coats,
"I am lowly", we'd swear,
"I am a non-thing, a meek toad"
But grounded in our shared pain,
We don't croak and survive,
our brother's suicidal rain.
